A Message of Gratitude for a Meaningful Sea Change

Dear Volunteers, Sponsors, Coordinators and Friends Last September 19, 2009, Saturday, the 24th International Coastal Cleanup m ark ed another milestone in the continuing responsibility for our oceans. People from all walks of life responded to the call for a Sea Change – a chance to give back to the o ceans. Volunteers gave their precious time to do their share in caring for our fragile marine environment. The sight of our volunteers was, indeed, an important manifestation of the continuing Sea Change. More importantly, it was a beautiful sunny day and our volunteers made it more meaningful by collecting and recording the important information on what’s littering our oceans. No matter how busy we were, we responded for three main reasons: it is doing the right thing and leaving our world better than we found it; trash in the ocean is one of the most widespread pollution problems we face - yet, it's also entirely preventable; litter and trash isn't just ugly — it impacts local

24th INTERNATIONAL COASTAL CLEANUP (ICC) “Start a Sea Change: A Day at the Beach becomes a Year-Round Movement” ATTENTION: ALL COORDINATORS AND PARTICIPANTS SUBJECT: REMINDERS / TIPS FOR 2009 PRE & POST- ICC ACTIVITIES _______________________________________________________ CLEANUP DATE: September 19, 2009 (Saturday) TIME: 6 - 7:00 am (Registration) 7:00 am (Kick-off Ceremony) 7:15 am (Start of Cleanup) 11:30 am (End of Cleanup) IMPORTANT NOTICE: CANCELLATION OF CLEANUP ACTIVITY Ø The cleanup activity shall be cancelled, in the event the forecasted weather conditions issued by PAGASA or thru the news a day before the cleanup states that there is likely to be bad weather conditions, such as, typhoon, heavy rains, and rough sea conditions. The month of September falls on the rainy season during which the prevailing monsoon winds and typhoons are a common occurrence, creating much uncertainty to organize outdoor events and carousing. However, rain or shine, enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers will merged down the shores, coasts and waterways this 19th of September 2009 for the 24th International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) to manifest their concern for the ocean environment. ICC is the largest global cleanup event held annualy every third Saturday of September. Launched in 1986 by Ocean Conservancy (formerly, Center for Marine Conservation), ICC's mission is to engage people to remove trash and debris from the world's beaches, rivers and waterways, to identify the sources of debris and to change behaviors that cause pollution.
