Marine and aquatic debris is among the world’s most pervasive pollution problem affecting our waters today. The litter may be as varied as the products available in the global marketplace, but all share a common origin. Somewhere, somehow, someone mishandled it – either deliberately or thoughtlessly. The International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) is a global volunteer-based initiative to reduce impacts of marine debris which contributes to climate change and biodiversity loss. Each year, volunteers have been mobilized to form a “litter army” to clean the waterways and collect information on the sources of debris for education or pollution prevention campaigns. To sustain this initiative, we are in need of volunteers to clean our waterways (esteros), shorelines, lakes, surface of adjacent seas and underwater areas.
