Trash has infiltrated all reaches of our ocean, causing innumerable impacts to people, water quality, marine wildlife and economies and also one of the sources contributing to climate change. However, there is good news - ocean trash can be prevented by tackling trash at the source before it has a chance to reach the water. Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) is a global volunteer-based initiative geared towards reducing the impacts of marine debris. Celebrated every year on the third Saturday of September, ICC mobilizes a multitude of volunteers from more than 90 countries and states to cleanup trash and debris from beaches/shorelines, rivers, lakes and waterways and to raise environmental awareness.
